COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA)
CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) connects people to their local food source. Grown out of an old tradition, the CSA model has played an integral part in supporting the return of a strong local food system. The farmer offers ‘shares’ in the farm for sale to the local community in the winter or early spring season. By joining a CSA (purchasing a ‘share’), members enter into a partnership with the farm in which they share in the risk and bounty of each season. CSA membership helps pay for the early season costs of farming: seed, water, labor, equipment, and materials.
At Aspen Moon Farm, our dedication to providing members with top quality seasonal produce puts the freshest possible local food on your table every week. And in the process, a CSA membership can be lots of fun! You will see the seasonal changes first-hand each week when you gather your vegetables at the Farm or by observing what is available weekly at the markets. CSA members are invited to two walking Farm tours (Spring and Fall) with the farmers to see the changes, ask questions, and see where your food really comes from. Members may take advantage of our seasonal u-pick opportunities. Members receive first priority for seasonal bulk-ordering for home preservation projects.
Registration for Summer and Fall CSA Shares are both closed. Please check back in 2020 if you are interested in joining our CSA.
Summer CSA Share
Your CSA share will be a variety of seasonal farm fresh vegetables and culinary herbs, all 100% grown on Aspen Moon Farm. A pick-up reminder will be emailed weekly with a link to the veggie list for that week and some preparation notes for new or interesting items. If you are interested in joining, click the Click to Join CSA button on this page.
Below are example of monthly seasonal shares:
June: 10 oz bag salad mix, 10 oz bag spinach, bunch chard, bunch radish, bunch turnip or carrot or beets; bunch green onion, pint sugar snap peas
August: 10 oz bag salad mix, bunch kale, 2 bunches carrot or beet, 2 onion, 2 zucchini or cucumber, pint tomato, pint purple green beans, 3 peppers, herb bunch
October: head lettuce, 5 oz bag arugula, 1 lb broccoli, head of celery, 1 winter squash, 1 lb potatoes, 1 Asian cabbage, 2 garlic bulbs
These are just examples. Shares will vary with availability and weather.
Shares may be a bit smaller in spring/early summer and larger in the peak of late summer/early fall.
Your financial support ensures your local farm can meet the annual upfront costs of seasonal production. You commit to receiving local produce all season long. This support fuels local agriculture and builds a local food system!
Summer CSA Pick Up Options
Roadside Farm Stand
Tuesday at the Roadside Farm Stand (at the farm) from 4 PM to 7 PM. CSA pick-up at the farm is farm stand style. Members gather and bag their own produce, like shopping at a farm stand. Members benefit from a few available choices (for example: kale or spinach, beets or radish, big or small carrots), but most weekly items are chosen for you based on season. Please allow 5-10 minutes to gather produce. We will also have a few pre-bagged shares for the person on the run. The farm stand is located at 7927 Hygiene Rd, which is where our seasonal Roadside Farm Stand is open to the public. Members can also purchase extra items at the farm stand, if desired.
Boulder Farmer's Market
Pick-up is at the Boulder Wednesday market from 3 PM to 7 PM. These shares are pre-boxed for quick and easy pick-up. Some item choices will be available. Members benefit by being able to purchase extra items throughout the Market. There will be three weeks of CSA pick-up in October after the Wednesday market ends. The tentative location for these October pick-ups is Alfalfa’s Market in Boulder (Broadway & Arapahoe) from 4 PM to 6 PM.
Pick-up is at Potager Restaurant located at 109 Ogden Street, Denver, CO. This CSA option is a little different. Only weekly CSA shares and weekly Flower shares are available (no biweekly and no fruit shares). You can pick up your share Tuesdays from 4 PM to 6 PM. This is a perfect time to visit the restaurant for a drink and appetizer. You will be inspired by the seasonal menu before you head home with your veggies for the week. Teri Rippeto, owner/chef, is a dedicated supporter of organic local food, and the menu at Potager reflects this dedication. A Fruit share is offered separately through Potager.
Below are the Summer Vegetable CSA share sizes and prices:
Weekly - $660 (feeds 2-4 people), Pick-up is every week for 22 weeks (the end of May - October), $28-$31 average weekly value
Biweekly - $360 (feeds 1-2 people or folks who travel or those who like to shop at the Farmer’s Market sometimes, etc.), Pick-up is every other week (11 total pick-ups), $28-$31 average value per week
Optional Add-On Options:
We are proud to offer Certified Organic fruit provided by Ela Family Farms in Hotchkiss, CO. Fruit pick-up will be offered on six separate dates from mid-August through the end of October. Typical fruit shares include: peaches, pears, apples, fresh apple cider, and jam. Lines can often be long at the Farmer’s Markets for fruit, and often fruit sells out quickly. You pick up your fruit share with your Aspen Moon Farm CSA on the designated dates. This offer is only for CSA Members who have purchased a summer vegetable share.
We offer ten weeks of custom fresh organic flower bouquets to adorn your home from mid-July to mid-September. All flowers are grown here at Aspen Moon Farm. Flowers help to diversify the farm and attract beneficial pollinators and insects for better crop production. The flowers also make the farm a more beautiful place for everyone.
Fall CSA Share
Fall CSA shares are provided from October 29, 2019 - December 10, 2019. Eight vegetable shares are provided over a 7 week period, with a double share (this includes the value of 2 shares in one box) on November 26, just in time for Thanksgiving. If you are unable to pick up your share, please arrange for a friend to pick up for you.
Shares will be preboxed at the Farmstand, 7927 Hygiene Rd in Longmont and available for pick-up Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday from Noon - 6 PM (except for the week of Thanksgiving, shares will only be available for pick on Tuesday or Wednesday). This is the only location available for the Fall CSA. (We have other locations available for the Summer CSA.) The flexible pick-up schedule helps to allow more ease for driving from Boulder or Denver and fall vegetables do well with this arrangement. You do not have to commit to one particular day, rather each week you can choose the most convenient pickup time for you.
Cost for the season is $250 (feeds 2-4 people), $31-$33 average weekly value (this reflects 10-15% off of current Farmers Market retail values).
